28 week appointment

We had our 28 week appointment on Wednesday and got some great news from the doctor. According to the ultrasound, baby A weighs 3 lbs and 1 ounce and baby B weighs 3 lbs and 8 ounces!!!! They are measuring at 31 weeks and I am measuring 34 weeks! Yep, that means I have a big, big belly! We also had our first fetal non-stress test and basically the test involves 3 monitors being attached to my belly for about 30 minutes. The monitors measure the babies heartrates and any contractions. The test went great. It is interesting to note that sometimes babies do not like these tests because they can hear their own heartbeats. This was the case for baby B! He kept moving around and the machine would lose his heartbeat so the nurse ended up having to turn the volume down:) Mark and I thought this was very funny because we would have predicted this behavior from baby A, but baby B has always been so laid back! We will see the doctor in two weeks to start our weekly appointments! Baby A is already "vertex" or head down! We are still praying that Baby B will do the same so we can attempt a normal delivery and not have to do a c-section:) Enjoy the 28 week belly pick!

Big Weekends

The past two weekends Mark, myself and "the boys in mommy's belly" have been enjoying our time in Tuscaloosa, AL watching the Tide play! Fall is one of Mark and I's favorite times of year because we both LOVE college football. We joke that Mark has turned me into a "football monster" because there was a time in my life when football was just something men watched on Saturdays while the women went shopping. Oh how things have changed for me and all started with just a little bit of education from my sweet hubby.
I have always been an AL fan (this was obviously one of the first questions Mark asked me when we started dating), but my appreciation for the game has grown leaps and bounds over the years. When Mark and I would go to games early in our dating relationship, I was the girl who was waiting for the halftime performance, who was lost when it came to referee calls, and really just did a good job keeping up with which team had the football. If the Tide lost a game, I was sure to remind Mark that "it's just a game" as we left the stadium with a smile still on my face.
Flash forward about 2 years. During this time, Mark would patiently (and I mean p-a-t-i-e-n-t-l-y) explain the games to me, recap Alabama football history, go over the SEC conference, and answer a million and one questions about football in general and now I can honestly say I LOVE Alabama football (and all college football in general for that matter). I truly have a respect for just how much the sport is such a mental game, the physicality of the players, and the excitement of all the traditions and rivalries. Fall Saturdays are no longer a day to shop and run errands, but now they are filled with ESPN College game day, tailgating in Tuscaloosa, keeping up with scores throughout the day, and hashing out the Tide's plan for victory over our upcoming opponent. Sundays are a day for watching replays of the games and reviewing the stats in the newspaper!
This year is unfortunately a little bit different for us. Being pregnant, we are not tailgating and we get to Tuscaloosa later and leave earlier these days. Regardless, this is a past time that I absolutely love sharing with my hubby and it is so much fun to make these memories together! Here are some pictures from the first Alabama games of the 2010 season! Roll Tide!

Alabama Football

In about 24 hours from now, Mark and I will be in Tuscaloosa awaiting the 6 o'clock kickoff of the 2010 season opener of the Alabama Crimson Tide vs. San Jose State game!

C-A-N-N-O-T W-A-I-T!!! Roll Tide!!!
BTW......it will officially unofficially be the boys first game:) So fun!

24 week appointment

So, we had our 24 week appointment on Wednesday and it went really well. We heard both of the babies heartbeats (156 and 140) and I got my belly measured for the first time. Drumroll please...I measured 29 weeks!!! My doctor said this is perfectly normal for twins and he did add that I needed to remember how great I am feeling right now because it is only going to get more uncomfortable from here! I also took a blood glucose test to check for gestational diabetes and had my iron checked for anemia and both labs came back perfectly normal. Yippee! PTL! I was really nervous about the glucose test for whatever reason, even though I have still been eating healthy and exercising! Huge relief! One more month and we will offically be in the third trimester. This pregnancy is flying by but we are trying to just enjoy every minute of it!

Nursery pictures

So right now our nursery looks like this...

And soon, we will have these items to add to Sawyer and Preston's room...can't wait for everything to come in!

Cravings...

So one of the first questions you always get asked when you are pregnant is "Are you craving anything?" Personally, I am not craving chocolate, or candy, or salty foods or pickles. I crave orange juice! Yep, good old-fashioned OJ. I can't get enough of it right now. I do try to limit to a glass in the morning and a glass before bed, but believe me, I could drink it ALL DAY LONG!
I am also really into anything with fig in it! Fig Newtons, fig preserves, cooking with figs etc. My sister and I found this wonderful recipe for a fig appetizer in our last Southern Living magazine and my brother-in-law cooked some for us a couple of weeks ago! So yummy! I had them again this past Sunday night courtesy of my mom! My whole family has fallen in love with them! Great summer treat to have before dinner! I have included the recipe below. Enjoy!

Baked Fig Crostini

Ingredients
  • 4 ounces chopped cooked bacon or country ham
  • 4 ounces crumbled goat cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped toasted pecans
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
  • 12 fresh figs
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • Toasted baguette slices

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350°. Stir together bacon or country ham, softened goat cheese, finely chopped toasted pecans, and chopped fresh thyme. Cut figs in half. Press back of a small spoon into centers of fig halves, making a small indentation in each. Spoon bacon mixture into indentations. Bake on a baking sheet 7 minutes. Drizzle with honey. Serve immediately with toasted baguette slices.

10 year Thompson High School Renunion!

So last weekend was my 10 year high school renunion! I guess you never think about being 22 weeks pregnant with TWINS at your reunion and seeing lots of people you haven't seen in a long, long time, but we did it and had a blast! We had a wonderful dinner at Twenty-Six downtown with the Allens and Lauren Burnett and then we headed out to the Rare Martini! Check out my pictures that recap the night! Go Warriors!

Registering

So Mark and I have officially begun the registering process and it is a bit overwhelming. I felt like we had done a lot of research and asked a lot of questions about what to register for, but once we entered the stores, we started second guessing our game plan:( But, we have decided registering is "a process" (courtesy of Nick Saban for all you Bama fans) and we are taking it in shifts! Check out some of our pictures from our adventures in babyland!

Funny thoughts....

Mark and my family have had some pretty hilarious comments/questions over the course of our pregnancy. Some that stand out include:
"I guess we don't really need to go to that breastfeeding class at the hospital because you already know how to do that."--Mark
"So, when you use a breastpump, does the milk get collected in a bucket or something?"--Mark
"So next summer when the babies are 6 months old, we can take them to the beach and put them in a pack n' play and give them some Cheerios to keep them entertained, right?"--my brother Ryan
"I guess we won't need onsies until they are a year old."--Mark

Too funny! Just thought I had to share...I am sure there will be more to come:)

Drumroll please...

After much deliberation, list making, number ranking, and input from friends and family, we have decided on baby names and we are in love with them! It is so official to see them spelled out (in blocks!). The twins (still sounds funny to say that) full names will be Sawyer William Thompson and
Preston Dallas Thompson. We just love the names Sawyer and Preston and William is Mark's middle name. Can't wait to meet our sweet boys!

How to Diaper a Coke bottle...

Q: What do you get when you combine an expectant dad, a diet coke bottle, and a diaper?

A: Some good baby practice!

First (Unofficial) Mother's and Father's Day

We both had a wonderful first Mother's and Father's Day. We spent Mother's Day going to church, then we went over the Pops and LaLa's house for a yummy lunch from Costa's. We went out on the patio to open gifts and eat cookies the boys baked:) I received much needed gift cards to start shopping for maternity clothes! We then headed over to meet my family for dinner at Jim N' Nicks in Alabaster. Mom gave me a variety of things, including a really neat book all about twins!

For Father's Day, Mark and I celebrated together with a Daddy Day! He got to pick everything we did that day! It started out with opening gifts. Mark received homemade rice crispy treats, personalized M & M's from the babies:), and some new shoes. Then, we went to the movies and saw The A-Team and came home to his favorite lunch-- roast, cream corn, homemade mashed potatoes, and Sister Schubert rolls! We then went over to Anniston to visit with my dad and play a round of Putt-Putt! Me and the babies beat everyone! On Sunday, we went over to Pops and LaLa's house for lunch and presents, then headed over to my mom's house for a wonderful dinner! Lots of first memories were made this weekend!

It's...

TWO BOYS!!!! Two sweet precious little boys! I can't believe I am going to be a mommy to 2 boys at one time! We are overjoyed at our news (and daddy is already making plans for coaching them to be star athletes). We are so excited to share our big news and of course the first thing I wanted to do was go shopping:)
